THE TYRANT’S BAG OF FEARS

No one ever told him “No!”
when he was a child,
so he’s afraid he must obey
all his desires.

No one ever said “You’re wrong!”
when he was a young man;
now he’s afraid
he always must be right.

No one ever told him power
is for service,
so he fears his very being depends
on holding onto power.

It’s fear, not confidence,
that rules with an iron fist.
